Primary Web Profile:

Shukhrat Shokirov completed his PhD degree from the Australian National University in the field of remote sensing of wildlife habitat, where he focused on using terrestrial and UAV LiDAR data for animal habitat modeling. After completing his PhD, Shukhrat pursued a short-term postdoctoral fellowship at the Australian National University, where he conducted research on the relationship between fuel moisture and fire severity. He used MODIS and Sentinel datasets to estimate this relationship in forests that experienced catastrophic fires during the 2019-2020 period in Australia. This research aimed to enhance the understanding of factors contributing to fire severity and its impact on forest ecosystems.

Currently, Shukhrat is working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland in College Park. He works with John Armston from the University of Maryland and Atticus Stovall from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center on his research project. The primary focus of this project is the calibration and validation of GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) data using terrestrial and UAV LiDAR datasets. Shukhrat's role involves ensuring the accuracy and reliability of GEDI data by comparing it with ground-based LiDAR measurements. Additionally, Shukhrat is involved in quantifying global forest structural biodiversity traits using terrestrial laser scanning. By leveraging this technology, Shukhrat aims to gain valuable insights into global forest biodiversity and the complexities of forest ecosystems.
