Mikhail Urbazaev received his Ph.D. degree from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany, in 2019. His Ph.D. work dealt with the estimation of vegetation structure parameters in Mexico using satellite imagery. Between 2014 and 2022 he has been with the Department for Earth Observation, University of Jena, as a Research Assistant. His research focuses on the synergetic use of synthetic aperture radar, lidar, and optical data for estimation of aboveground biomass and vegetation structural parameters as well as on time series analysis for mapping of forest and water dynamics. He is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in GEDI Science Team at the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland in College Park.
