Twenty high school students participating in the 2017 Maryland 4-H Congress visited the Department of Geographical Sciences for a GIS Workshop on June 21st, 2017. Undergraduate Advising Coordinator Amanda Hoffman-Hall, alongside BSOS Coordinator Margo Shear and GEOG Office Administrator Lorraine Makanyama, led the students through a hands-on GIS tutorial in Open Street Map (OSM). After the tutorial the students contributed to the Eliminate Malaria Campaign through Humanitarian OSM and DigitalGlobe, in support of the Clinton Health Access Initiative's malaria program. 

The students mapped over 180 buildings in the city of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe! Mapping these buildings is critical to identifying populated places under the threat of malaria. Thank you students for all of your hardwork. We hope you enjoyed learning about GIS!
