Why did you want to be a GIS major?
I wanted to be a GIS major becuase it provided me with the perfect balance of technology and humanitarian work. The concpet of utilizing computers to help improve lives worldwide was too attractive to give up.
What internships or independent research did you do as a GIS major?
I interned during my senior year as a software engineer for a GIS mobile application. The application was specifically designed for EMT and hospitals in the health IT sector. They utilized the app in order to coordinate the shortest and fastest route to the nearest hospital/emergency room from the place of an accident.
What recommendations would you make to current GIS majors for career and academic success while they are still undergraduates?
I would recommend that current GIS majors do additional research on what realm of GIS that they would like to pursue beyond graduation. I would also highly recommend starting an internship during their last year/semester - professional experience is vital.
What recommendations would you make to current GIS majors for career and academic succes after graduation?
I would recomment finding fields that are related to GIS to make the post-graduation job search easier!
