GEOG representatives engage students in networking and dialogue at this annual event.
On March 12, the BSOS Student-Faculty Social took place at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union’s Colony Ballroom, bringing together undergraduate students, faculty members, and staff from the Department of Geographical Sciences and other departments in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS). Hosted by the Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC), the event aimed to promote interaction and dialogue beyond the formal classroom setting.
About 200 attendees, including students and faculty, participated in the event, which has become an annual tradition since its inception in the fall of 2019. The evening kicked off with a buffet dinner, providing an informal setting for guests to mingle and connect.
Undergraduate Director Keith Yearwood and Adviser Byron Marroquin represented GEOG, offering their support and guidance to students in topics such as navigating college life, career aspirations and graduate school.
“We had the opportunity to interact with BSOS students from all majors, including some of our own GEOG majors and minors,” said Marroquin. “We met new students and introduced them to the field of Geography and how it can be applied in the real world and behind a computer.”
The program also included breakout sessions, allowing students to engage in discussions with multiple faculty members on various topics, including coursework, research interests, graduate schools and career advice.
