Grant Period: March 1, 2019 - June 30, 2019
Christina Prell has been awarded a Fulbright for visiting the Geography Department at Klagenfurt University. The project title of the award is “Coupled Human and Natural Systems and the Anthropocene.” During Dr. Prell’s stay at Klagenfurt, she will engage Klagenfurt colleagues to create ‘synthesis’ articles that combine, on the one hand, her strengths as an empirical and theoretical social scientist focusing on the role of networks in environmental change and coupled system, with those, on the other hand, with Klagenfurt faculty members’ more critical-theoretical perspectives pertaining to the Anthropocene.
Klagenfurt is one of the few universities in Austria that houses a department that actively bridges across social and natural sciences in the effort to better study human dimensions of environmental change. Further, Klagenfurt’s Geography Department is the only one in Austria that advances a systems- theoretical perspective in researching the Anthropocene.
In addition to these research goals, Dr. Prell will teach seminars at Klagenfurt pertaining to the theory and methods of social networks, as well as the application of network analysis to studying coupled and/or social-ecological systems. Dr. Prell is excited about this opportunity to join Klagenfurt University, and looks forward to collaborating with her Austrian colleagues.
