Dr. Yiqun Xie, Assistant Professor in Geospatial Information Science, receives the gift award from Google to advance AI for Social Good through a new project titled "Leave No One Behind: Spatial AI Enabled Settlement Mapping to Enhance WASH Access for Vulnerable Populations". The project is in partnership with the Aquaya Institute, a non-profit research organization dedicated to advancing global health through universal access to safe water and sanitation by knowledge from data. Kara Stuart will be Aquaya's main contact.
The project is part of the 30 new awards from Google's AI for Social Good program in 2021, with academics recognized and supported as "Impact Scholars". This is an ongoing work and please feel free to contact Dr. Xie for more details.
Collaboration: Dr. Xie has an interdisciplinary background with PhD in Computer Science and MS in Geospatial Information Science. His research focuses on advancing data science and AI techniques for spatial data and related societal problems (e.g., smart cities, agriculture, public safety, public health). He is a new Assistant Professor and open to exploring collaborations on spatial data related topics.
