Department Professors Fernando Sedano and George Hurtt together with Pieter Kempeneers from the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) published the manuscript entitled, "A Kalman Filter-Based Method to Generate Continuous Time Series of Medium-Resolution NDVI Images."

The manuscript presents a data assimilation method to produce complete temporal sequences of synthetic medium-resolution images. The method implements a Kalman filter recursive algorithm that integrates medium (e.g. Landsat) and moderate resolution imagery (e.g. MODIS). The team has also developed an open source tool for linux environment that allows the operational application of the method.
