The GEDI instrument was successfully berthed on the International Space Station (ISS) at the JEM-EF #6 on December 13. The robotic installation was completed in the wee hours of December 14 and allowed for the initial heating/cooling build to be enabled. This was followed by the instrument's initial power up to be completed. In the coming weeks GEDI will be tested (laser temps, laser first light, and Foresight Adjustment Mechanism (BAM) operations) before conducting initial data collection testing for 10 days. The data will be processed and assessed by GSFC and UMD GEDI team members. As more updates come through they will be posted at gedi.umd.edu or you can follow @GEDI_Knights on twitter.
