Shreya Jha, a UMD student majoring in environmental science and policy with dual minors in geospatial information science and history, has been chosen as a recipient of the scholarship, along with psychology student Astrid Mendoza.
The Voyager Scholarship, launched by former U.S. President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and Airbnb Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky, is designed to empower financially challenged college juniors to become future leaders.
Over the course of two years, Shreya will receive $50,000 in financial aid, accompanied by $10,000 stipends. As part of the scholarship, she will also be provided with complimentary housing by Airbnb, enabling her to embark on a transformative work-travel experience during her junior and senior years.
“Receiving this scholarship means getting the unbelievable opportunity to meet and learn from different leaders, communities and organizations who share my passion for public service,” said Shreya to BSOS.
