Graduating Geographical Sciences Major Bronwen Schriml has won a Boren Scholarship. The Boren Scholarship is an initiative of the National Security Education Program, providing unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Bronwen is a double major in Geographical Sciences and Government and Politics (International Relations concentration). She will be graduating this Spring, Cum Laude, and heading to the University of Florida and then Dakar, Senegal to learn advanced France and intermediate Wolof. Bronwen is one of only 8 UMD students to recieve the scholarship this year! 

During her time at UMD Bronwen has been an asset to the Department, College, and University. Bronwen has been involved with BSOS Ambassadors as well as the leadership fraternity Omicron Delta Kappa. She is an alumnus of the Global Fellows program, where she eventually went on to serve as a Teaching Assistant. She is a member of the Honors Humanities Program and Spoon University, an online food publication aimed at and created by college students from around the country. Even with all of these activities, she found the time to study abroad in France this past Fall. 

She has excelled in numerous internships, including at the Mayor of Chicago Federal Affairs Office, with the Frederick County Circuit Court Head Administrative Judge G. Edward Dwyer Jr., and as part of the Maryland General Assembly Page Program. She has also volunteered with Special Olympics since the age of six, specifically volunteering at the annual Polar Bear Plunge and Summer Games.
