Ibraheem Khan, a UMD graduate with a Ph.D in Geographical Sciences from the Department of Geographical Sciences, passed away on July 1 st , 2019, after falling ill after arriving in his hometown in Lahore, Pakistan.

Ibraheem was a young, enthusiastic, dedicated, and intelligent emerging scientist, who inspired all with whom he studied and worked. His peers at UMD appreciated him as a humble human being, one always ready to help others. As a Research Assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering, Teaching Assistant and graduate student in the Department of Geographical Sciences, Ibraheem was always a dependable and talented colleague.

Ibraheem was born to a well-respected family of Lahore, Pakistan on January 11, 1983. He received a B.Sc. (Hons) in Space Sciences from the University of Punjab, Lahore. He received a M.Sc. (Space Sciences) from the University of Punjab, Lahore in 2007 with his thesis on “Preparation for CWRF downscaling climate prediction over Pakistan: development of iCWPS surface processing and analysis of regional precipitation teleconnection”. After his M.Sc. he served as Lecturer at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology till 2008. In August 2008, he joined the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received his M.S in Atmospheric Sciences in 2011. He joined the University of Maryland College Park to pursue his Ph.D, which he successfully completed in December 2018 with a dissertation titled “High-volume rainfall impacts and adaptation in the U.S. mid-Atlantic under climate change and urbanization”.

With such outstanding achievements and qualifications, Ibraheem was already an accomplished scientist. We are sad for his loss, both personally and professionally. The Department of Geographical Sciences mourns his untimely death and extends condolences to his family. Ibraheem will be missed by his peers, colleagues, friends, and family.
