The department of Geographical Sciences is devestated to convey the news that we lost our colleague Alexander (Sasha) Krylov this week (March 15, 2017).

Sasha graduated from the Moscow State Forest University in 2005. After graduating, he worked for the Russian Forest Health Center, where he focused on remote sensing of natural forest disturbance. Sasha's research was focused on the global and regional forest cover dynamic assessment and Landsat based near real-time forest monitoring. To learn more about Sasha's research and publications, please visit the Global Land Analysis and Discover (GLAD) website. Sasha loved forests and devoted his professional career to protecting them. His mind was behind GLAD alerts, which have immensely advanced forest monitoring. He was a great scientist and friend, and will be missed by many.

We are raising funds to donate to a local mental health organization in his honor, please consider contributing here. If you or anyone you know is seeking counseling during this tragic time, please visit the University Health Center webpage for information.
