During 2018 NOAA JPSS Annual Science Team Conference (August 27-30, 2018), PhD candidate Yuhan Rao received the Best Student Poster Award for his poster presentation entitled "Cross-comparison of Land Surface Temperature Product between JPSS and GOES-R mission: Towards the Enterprise Algorithm".

The NOAA JPSS Annual Science Team Conference is an annual event for NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) science team and data users to share recent developments and applications of satellite data from JPSS satellite missions. The theme of this year's conference is "JPSS Applications", exploring examples that users utilizing data produced by STAR JPSS science team and ways to improve user experience. The conference is held in the Auditorium and Conference Center at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction in College Park.

Yuhan presented his work as part of the algorithm working group (AWG) for JPSS and GOES-R land surface temperature (LST) products. As a member of LST AWG, Yuhan is responsible for validating LST products for NOAA satellite missions using in situ observations across different continents and cross-satellite comparison. His poster presented the recent development of an automated cross-satellite comparison tool for LST products from GOES-16, Suomi NPP, Terra, Aqua and recently launched NOAA-20 satellites. This tool collects LST data match-ups across different satellites and generates weekly comparison reports which will be distributed to subscribed users.
