Second year Ph.D. student Amanda Hoffman-Hall was recently awarded a Pre-Candidacy Dean’s Research Initiative grant from the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS). Amanda will receive $1500, which will fund a year-long experiment at the UMD Research Greenhouse. The experiment will further advance her dissertation research, “Assessing the impact of climate change on Phytophthora cinnamomi, a destructive forest pathogen in the northeastern United States.” Amanda will use the funds to rent climate chamber space in order to subject 300 Quercus rubra (red oak) seedlings infected with P. cinnamomi to different climate scenarios.
