First year PhD student and Flagship Fellow, Ana Sanchez-Rivera, won the Best Student Paper Award at the Applied Geography Conference in November 2013. The title of the paper was, "Disparities in the US Census Racial Categories and the Populations's Perception of Race:  The Case of Puerto Rico." The award was presented by Professor Chris Lange of Eastern Illinois University.
