For over 20 years, the Department of Geographical Sciences has hosted a Career and Internship Fair specifically for Geography and GIS students. The Fall 2017 Fair was held on October 20th, 2017. Over 90 students met with 15 different organizations and agencies to explore career opportunities in Geographical Sciences. The Advising Office would like to thank the following organizations for attending and helping our students grow as Geographers: American Association of Geographers, Amtrak, UMD Facilities Management - Campus GIS, ESRI, GeoCGI, IMSG Inc., Maryland Environmental Trust, UMD Masters of Professional Studies in GISUMD Masters of Professional Studies in Geospatial Intelligence, Motivf Corporation, NASA DEVELOP, U.S. Census Bureau, National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), Urban Resources Initiative, and UMD Army ROTC

After the fair 11 talented students presented on their internship experiences to their peers, employers, professors, and advisors. Interns from Motivf Corporation (Tolulope Ajayi), UMD Oral Communication Center (Stephanie George), HIP Consult (Juan-Martin Newlands), NASA ARSET (Selwyn Hudson-Odoi), START (Kevin Greco and Brian Slobotsky), NOAA (Kathy Carpenter and Samita Watson), Facilities Management - Campus GIS (Nhu Nguyen and Yini Song), and UMD Department of Resident Life (Soulihe Nida) all shared the exceptional experiences they've had as interns in professional settings.
