Dr. Krishna Vadrevu, GEOG Research Associate Professor, was interviewed by Environmental Research Web recently. The article entitled, "Detecting aerosol pollution from vegetation fires with satellites," discusses the prevalence of air pollution by aerosols and how satellites might be utilized to monitor its global impact on climate. "Satellite observations, such as aerosol optical depth, aerosol index (AI) and UV aerosol index (UVAI), can be a powerful tool for monitoring air pollution if they can be related to the underlying emission sources," Vadrevu told Environmental Resarch Web. "Our results highlight challenging issues in relating fires with aerosol pollution, but this link could help improve both weather forecasts and global climate models."
