Sergii Skakun (Assistant Research Professor) recently published a paper in the International Journal of Remote Sensing with colleagues Chris Justice, Eric Vermote and Jean-Claude Roger, entitled - 'Transitioning from MODIS to VIIRS: an analysis of inter-consistency of NDVI data sets for agricultural monitoring'. MODIS has been the instrument of choice for agricultural monitoring for the last 15 years but the MODIS instruments are now aging. The instrument to replace EOS MODIS is the Suomi NPP Visible/Infrared Imager/Radiometer Suite (VIIRS). The paper provides a comparison between MODIS and VIIRS for purpose of agricultural monitoring.
